Parkside Pedestrian Bridge Advertised for Construction

Pre-Bid Meeting Scheduled for April 24

(Washington D.C.)  The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today advertised for contractor bids on construction of the Parkside Pedestrian Bridge, which will better connect communities to one another, the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station and the Anacostia River.

Located just north of the Benning Road interchange, the bridge will provide safe, well-lit access for pedestrians, bicyclists and people with disabilities over DC-295 and seven sets of railroad tracks between the Mayfair neighborhood and proposed Parkside development on the west with the Minnesota Avenue Metro and Bus Transfer Stations, Downtown Ward 7 and the Deanwood Community on the east.

To reach this point, DDOT has continued to work with Pepco on relocating overhead power lines and with CSX and WMATA on being able to build the bridge over their respective railroad tracks.

“This is an exciting day for the project, DDOT and the communities and residents who will benefit from this important project in the years ahead,” said Ravindra Ganvir, DDOT’s Deputy Chief Engineer and Anacostia Waterfront Initiative Program manager. “We look forward to getting construction underway and completed as quickly as possible.”

Construction is anticipated to begin during Summer 2014 and last at least 18-20 months, depending on on-going coordination with Pepco, WMATA and CSX. The new $16-million bridge will be a three-span, 400-foot weathering steel truss bridge with arches.

A Pre-Bid Meeting will be held on April 24, 2014, at DDOT Headquarters: 55 M Street SE, 6th Floor Conference Room 639, Washington, DC, 20003.

Contractor bids are due by May 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. Sealed bid documents can be delivered or mailed to the DDOT Bid Room, 55 M Street SE, 4th Floor, Washington, DC, 20003. Bid documents are available at:
